Clean Fuels NY Coalition Sends Over 50 Letters To Government Leaders Calling For A Clean Fuel Standard

A coalition of environmental, public health, vehicle manufacturers and energy groups representing 1,600 organizations and businesses signed on to show support for reducing transportation emissions in New York State

New York, NY (November 10, 2020) – On Tuesday, November 10, members of the Clean Fuels NY Coalition representing more than 1,600 entities sent over 50 letters of support to Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders urging them to support a clean fuel standard and include the proposal in the Fiscal Year 2022 Executive Budget proposal.

Letters were signed by organizations that are looking to expand their businesses and bring new green jobs to New York, including agricultural groups, auto manufacturers, renewable fuel trade associations, biofuel producers, electric charging companies, in addition to environmental advocates. The letters outlined how a clean fuel standard would benefit New York’s environment, public health and the economy by reducing pollution from the transportation sector and accelerating the transition to electric and other clean fueled vehicles.

“As we continue to fight the COVID-19 crisis, we cannot forget about the ongoing climate crisis that is devasting communities across the country. In New York, transportation emissions are the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and asthma inducing pollution. To seriously address this crisis, we need to act now to reduce transportation pollution,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “A clean fuel standard would accelerate the transition to clean fuel technology, create jobs for New Yorkers, clean our air and improve public health at no cost to the state, and create a new revenue stream for fleet operators to invest in clean vehicles and infrastructure, like EV charging stations.”

A clean fuel standard requires transportation fuel suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the fuels they make and sell, creating a more dependable market for clean fuels and technology that are essential to reaching the goals set out in New York’s Climate Leadership and Protection Act (CLCPA).
