Statement in Response to Governor Andrew Cuomo's 2020 State of the State Address

“The Clean Fuels New York coalition applauds Governor Cuomo’s proposal to accelerate investment in electric vehicle infrastructure and mass transit. As the largest contributor to the state’s harmful greenhouse gas emissions, transportation requires big, comprehensive solutions. Buses, cars and trucks overwhelmingly rely on petroleum-based fuels, which represent a significant portion of New York’s harmful air pollution. To meet the ambitious clean energy goals adopted in the Climate Leadership and Protection Act (CLCPA), we urge New York to establish a Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) in the upcoming executive budget. 50% of New Yorkers live with failing air quality, and New York City’s air quality consistently ranked amongst the lowest in the nation. An LCFS will accelerate the shift to clean forms of energy in the transportation sector without tax funding, significantly improving New Yorkers’ quality of life and pushing us further to a clean energy future,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters.
